There is something I’ve noticed, over the course of my leadership career. We #leaders are MUCH more inclined to point out the NEED for improvement than we are to celebrate the PRESENT improvement.

We don’t do it on purpose. We don’t want to be negative. In fact, if I were to ask you if you are naturally inclined to find fault, you would probably say “NO!” and then proceed to share a story (or two) about why you don’t believe that fault-finding is an effective form of leadership.
Unfortunately, if I were ask your staff, “Does your boss point out more of what you have done right or more of what you have done wrong?” They would likely tell a different story.

Do you know how I know? BECAUSE I FACE THE SAME THING!

We all do.

It is one of the biggest challenges of leadership (and not just at the office!). We KNOW that we are called to be #encouraging#inspiring, and #empowering. But, we also know that we have to make people #better, and that involves addressing the tough stuff and being the one who carries the standard for the team. PLUS, people do not often come to us to compliment our staff. They come to us when they want to complain! And so, little by little, we become more and more focused on what is going WRONG than on what is RIGHT!

So, the #encouragement that I would like to share with my fellow #leaders, today is to be #encouraging. Take a moment today to compliment your team. Do it in an authentic and meaningful manner that makes their day better. Find SOMETHING that you can be complimentary about. And share it with your team-members. And, if you are anything like me and need a reminder, may I humbly recommend that you put it in your schedule? We make time for the things that are most important to us. How important is it to us that we are affirming and edifying our team?

Lastly, before I wrap this thing up, can I just tell you that I am proud of YOU? You wouldn’t still be reading this if you didn’t want to be the type of leader that I respect and admire. I love your heart and I want you to know that I stand with you, as we fight the battle of negativity and commit to being a positive force in the lives of our people.

Remember, this applies to YOU. Then, go spread the love to your team!
