Do you have a heart for people?
Does this seem like something you can agree with?
We all (no matter how good of a #leader we are) seek some level of validation. Whether we are looking for a financial increase, a positional #promotion or simply a new level of respect, there is SOMETHING that we want to achieve.
This is not (necessarily) because our priorities are misplaced. We instinctively understand that money, positions, etc. are all representations of #impact. And we (hopefully) desire to have a dynamic impact on the world!
Personally, I don’t think it’s wrong for a leader to be well-paid, given elevated titles, or anything like that. BUT, I want to encourage ALL of us leaders to always remember HOW the impact is made. The promotion should be the RESULT of the impact. It should not be the catalyst.
It is not our position (no matter how high) that gives us the best opportunity to make an impact and be a great leader. It is our heart for people. It is our love for others!
As we engage the mid-point of the week, may I remind us all that, while good #leadership may lead to promotions, raises, and prestige; it is not ABOUT those things. Leadership is about #people. And the more we #love people, the better leaders we will be!
I hope this is encouraging to you, today. I know that reading things like this can be helpful, but for real-life examples of this principle, I invite you to #connect with any of the leaders in my network who lead with love and set the bar so high for the rest of us!
