The Redemption Story of Jon Antonucci
That was me on May 10, 2021–exactly 2 years ago.
I am walking out of the Arizona State Prison in Globe, AZ.
My head is down because I do not know whether to laugh or cry. My heart is racing, as I walk toward my brother’s SUV. It is the first time I have been physically “free” for over a decade.
I didn’t know what to expect, nor did I know what I would face. But, I DID know that I was ready, and I was determined to succeed. I had worked tirelessly, during my incarceration to correct character flaws and resist institutionalism. I had been disciplined in my work to be ready for this day…and here it was. These were my first steps of freedom since 2009!
As I look back on my life’s journey, I am filled with awe and gratitude. The redemptions story that I am living is BEYOND remarkable and the grace that I have received is more than I can explain. The time that I served for my foolish decisions, was by no means easy, but it was good. It was what I needed to be the person I am today. And it was used in all the right ways. I am so thankful to God for bringing me through it and also out of it. I’m thankful for the man I am today.
A month after I was released, I was given a position as the training manager for @optimizecourier. 3 months later, I had my own place to live. 4 months later, I proposed-getting married a year after I walked out of those gates. I have gotten to be a part of my brother’s wedding, been able to lead in my church, and have recently begun a company that is dedicated to empowering front-line leaders.
As I reflect on the last two years, I am even more amazed! The opportunity that I have to empower leaders is one that I do not take lightly. The role that I have in my church is one that I am honored to stand in. The amazing family that I have is one that I do not deserve. And the wife that I have been blessed with is more amazing than words can express!
My life has been forged in fire. It has not been easy. But, the value that I get to add today is a direct result of the challenges that I have passed through. I am thankful for every moment that has made up my journey and I am excited by every step that is still in front of me!
Thanks for letting me share, today.
