This may look like less of a #leadership post and more like an #inspirational post. But, I think there is something here that is VITAL for all #leaders!

Those of us in positions of leadership often fall into the trap of feeling like we can’t reveal our struggle. We think that, if we struggle, it means we are weak and, if we are weak, people won’t respect us.

I simply don’t think this is the case.

Of course, we all want leaders who have been victorious! So, I am not suggesting that we should demonstrate that there is no reason to follow us. BUT, the struggle is not failure, and can be #inspiring in its own right! Something people respect LESS than leaders who have been unsuccessful at overcoming challenges is leaders who have never had any challenges to overcome! (think of the kid who is the boss simply ’cause his mother owns the business)

So, don’t be ashamed of your struggle. It’s a badge of honor that you were willing to put in the work, take up the fight, and make things happen even when they were not lined up in your favor. Think of the leaders that you respect most. Are they not the ones who faced the greatest difficulty and overcame? Think of the leaders that have garnered the most admiration worldwide. Many of them did not even have prestigious titles. They were admired and followed due to what they have gone through!

So, keep fighting! Keep struggling! Keep pressing on toward the prize!

Never be embarrassed that you had to struggle! Everything worth achieving is hard work! But that is how we change the world!
