Are you willing to ask for help?
Really, are you willing to ask for help?
Sometimes it’s not easy to put down our ego and acknowledge that we need someone to help us. But, it is almost always the first step to success. And great leaders know how to ask right away! Whether it’s a formal leader (with a title) or an informal leader (who serves others), the ability (and willingness) to ask for help is a critical part of one’s growth journey.
Don’t misunderstand, this does not mean that leaders never try to figure things out on their own. But, this DOES mean that there is an intrinsic understanding of the value in asking for help, when needed and recognizing when there are others who have more experience/understanding than we do.
So, what is holding you back from asking for help?
Is it fear that someone will think you are not fit for leadership? (The best leaders are not really “qualified”.)
Is it ego that insists you must be able to do it yourself? (The best leaders know they can’t do everything.)
Is it pressure you feel from others that you have to “earn” your place? (The best leaders earn their place through love and effective service, not by avoiding asking for help.)
Whatever the barrier, be encouraged today that asking for help is not just OK, it is actually one of the best ways to both ensure that things are properly managed AND to promote your own growth.
