Priorities, Choices, Impact, and Legacy
Every once in a while, I am reminded of how important my choices are.
Of course, since we were young, most of us were taught to “make good choices.” But not many of us were taught why or how…
Over the years, I have learned that my priorities will at least influence my choices and may actually dictate them. The things that I hold to be near and dear to my heart are the things that impact the choices that I make. Therefore, I have found it to be very important that I guard my heart and ensure my priorities are in line with my desired outcome.
Why?
Because not only do my priorities determine my choices, but my choices determine my legacy.
Maybe you have heard the common poem,
“Plant a thought, reap an action.
Plant an action, reap a habit.
Plant a habit, reap a character.
Plant a character, reap a destiny.”
The idea here is the same. Our actions (choices) will determine our destiny—and thus our legacy.
As a leader, I’ve learned that I have so much more responsibility in all of this because my actions have a ripple-effect that impacts the priorities, choices, and legacies of many others. Therefore, I am conscious of not only how my choices will impact my own destiny/legacy, but also that of others.
