Leader to raise up other leaders...to be exactly the same?

Are we to Raise up other leaders exactly like us?

Take a look at this picture… I don’t like it! At first, it looks good… until you look closer. I saw this post, the other day, while I was scrolling through my feed. I stopped scrolling to read the post and, at first glance, liked it… I personally subscribe to the idea true leaders raise up other leaders. So, this seemed pretty great to me!

But then I took a closer look at the image.

I don’t want to make too much of a non-issue. But, I fear that this image represents the way we think of leadership development.

We think that each leader we nurture and coach will be a sort of “mini-me.”

Not only is this quite egocentric, it is also the antithesis of true leadership. I am not fond of leadership being depicted as though the leaders become smaller in succession.

True leadership empowers leaders that are greater, better, more effective than themselves.
**Read that again**

If the image was turned around, I would like it a whole lot more.

If we produce a BETTER leader, who nurtures a more effective Leader, who creates a greater impact THEN we have fulfilled our calling as leaders. Again, we must raise up other leaders to be better than us!
