How do you grow?
How do you nurture growth in yourself or in your organization?
Working with leaders, growth is always an important topic. But, whether I am encouraging them to grow or we are talking about how to facilitate growth within their teams, it is important to remember that it cannot be forced.
The old saying reminds us that we can lead a horse to water but cannot make it drink. Similarly, we can provide tools and resources but we cannot force implementation or authentic engagement.
So, if growth is so important yet we are unable to make it happen, what are we to do?
The answer: nurture it.
There are many ways to do this, but the following 3 steps will help on the path.
1. Provide relevant tools and resources.
2. Celebrate efforts toward growth and achievements of growth.
3. Always make growth the emphasis.
By providing RELEVANT resources, there may be a higher likelihood of engagement.
By celebrating efforts and successes, there may be a greater motivation.
By focusing on the growth, we avoid making it about our agenda and being unsettled when someone doesn’t participate.
Great leaders nurture growth.
